PRESS RELEASE:  February 2, 2024
Superintendent’s Office

Kindergarten Age Change - Beginning Fall 2024

Information Regarding Waiver

During the last legislative session, the State of Connecticut passed Public Act 23-208 which will become effective beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.  Public Act 23-2028 requires students to have turned 5 years of age on or before September 1st of that school year to enroll in kindergarten.  The current legislation does allow an option for parents/guardians of students who will turn five between September 2nd and January 1st to request in writing if they would prefer their child to be granted a waiver to enroll in school early based on results of an assessment of the student’s academic and social skills.

Parents/guardians who would like to request a waiver should complete a form that can be found on the Enfield Public Schools Website www.enfieldschools.org.  Enfield Public School staff will contact families to set up an appointment for the screening window which will run from March 4th through May 31st, 2024.  All assessments will take place during the school day at the student’s home school.  The results will be reviewed by a school-based team.  Results of the assessments will be communicated to families within 10 days of the assessment.
