Press Release
Office of the Superintendent of Schools Enfield Teacher of the Year 2016-17

The Enfield Public Schools is pleased to announce David J. Guertin has been selected as the 2016-17 Enfield Teacher of the Year. Mr. Guertin is a science teacher at John F. Kennedy Middle School. As a result of this distinction, he will represent Enfield at the state level in the Connecticut Teacher of the Year process.

Mr. Guertin was nominated by John Unghire, a fellow teacher at John F. Kennedy Middle School. He was recognized for his commitment to his students and his high level of technological skills he brings into his science classrooms. He possesses an instinctual knowledge of students’ individual needs and ensures that all learners regardless of their background, have the opportunity to succeed in his classroom.

Mr. Guertin has created and maintained a classroom website, co-chaired the National Junior Honor Society, co-chaired the NEAS&C Steering Committee for JFK’s school accreditation and volunteered as a member of the Talented and Gifted Committee. He has also helped to raise money for classroom materials, created a series of science inquiry worksheets to target student’s skills, hosted Professional Development training sessions on how to Flip Your Classroom and implemented an online website for students to use for homework, take quizzes and hear him record lessons for students that have a hard time with reading assignments. He also wrote a “Donors Choose” project to get Google Cardboard Headsets for our students.

Mr. Guertin is completing his 10th year of teaching in the district. Mr. Guertin received a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from the University of Connecticut and a Master’s of Arts in Education from the University of Connecticut.

We are thrilled to share this honor with you, and wish David the best with his future pursuit at the state level.
