Elementary Visual Arts
Introduction
Visual arts education is essential to the learning process. A comprehensive arts education program will engage students in a process that develops cooperation, self and group motivation dynamics, as well as mental discipline. Arts education is a central player in the development of creative and constructive self-awareness in student learners.
The Visual Arts Department is open to and actively encourages the intergration of all disiplines cross-curriculum. Students are facilitated in making relevant connections between visual arts and the empiric experience. The Enfield Visual Art Department aligns National and Connecticut State Standards with our unique and diverse community of student learners, teachers, and parents.
The visual arts present a problem solving element to the education experience in which creativity, the elements of art, and the principles of design are used as tools to arrive at solutions. This creative approach to instructional activities is vital and valid to life's everday problems. Students will foster an understanding of aesthetics through the communication and creative potential inherent in the visual arts. The ability to interpret the visual communication present in our global and local communities is key to a modern existence. Students are provided with experiences, which generate opportunities to analyze their own artistic growth over time in relation to specific criteria. The visual arts satisfy the needs of both the personal and interpersonal/social worlds.
The visual arts directly cultivate the mental and sensory processes. Our goal is to enhance the connection between each student learner and his or her experience, to intergrate the logical and the emotional, and to build a bridge between verval and nonverbal comprehension.
