MICCA Concert Band Festival - Gold Medal Recipients
The office of the Superintendent is pleased to announce that on Saturday April 6th, 2024, the 8th grade students from the JFK Middle School Patriot Band under the direction of Mr. John Power, were awarded a GOLD Medal for a superior level of music making for their performance at the Massachusetts Instrumental & Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) Music Festival at Belchertown High School. This is an extremely high achievement for our students and director that have been working for months to prepare their music for this event. During the clinic one of the adjudicators, Mr. Steve Massey announced to the students that it was “an honor” to listen to their performance. They played “artistically” and as a “musical team with a high quality of listening and musical skills; not the normal achievement for a band at this grade level.”
The festival is a major music educational event for many districts across New England, and it is hosted at eight different sites, across the state of Massachusetts featuring performances of over 220 choirs, bands, and orchestras coming together from April 5 to the 7 to showcase their musical talents. Students perform and then receive feedback from world-class musicians/conductors from all over the country.
To hear and observe this excellent group in action please attend the annual spring concert for the JFK Bands on May 29th at 7 PM in the JFK Middle School Auditorium. Congratulations Patriot Band and thank you for representing Enfield Public Schools so well!
